The lovely black labrador in this picture chose the wrong moment to lie down. A moment before he had been sitting bolt-upright, and so still that I wasn't sure whether he was real.
Even though there was a charge, this did feel like a place of worship. There was a smell of incense in the air, and music playing. I'm not normally a great fan of canned music, but it does help to convey a sense of worship.
I've noticed that if a church has an atmosphere of prayer, people are quiet and respectful, and take photos in a way that doesn't intrude on others. If there is no such atmosphere, people behave like tourists.
It cost 3.50 euros to go the Royal Chapel and another 3.50 to go in the Cathedral. The tour guide told us that normally it costs 7.00 for the Cathedral, but it's reduced at the moment because of restoration work. The only bit that was free was the nice church.
It is a massive building, with several separate bits. As well as the main part of the Cathedral, there is the Royal Chapel where Queen Isabella is buried, and another very nice peaceful church., which was by far the best place to pray.
Our first stop was the centre of Granada. Someone said that it's smaller and quieter than Seville. I'm now wondering if I really want to go to Seville tomorrow - Granada made Oxford Street seem quiet!
This is another picture of the shops, taken from across the road as I waited for the tour bus to go to Granada. It was just after 7.00am. We got back at nearly 9.00pm - it is long drive, but shouldn't have been quite so late. However it is a bank holiday here today and we got caught up in the "great get-away"
