St Willibrord

He came from Northumbria in the 7th century, and evangelised the area around Luxembourg. He founded Echternach Cathedral where this statue is, and his shrine is in the crypt. Despite the cathedral being damaged in both the Napoleonic and the Second World Wars, Willibrord's original stone coffin has survived.

My name is Frances Wookey and I am Vicar of nine churches in rural South Worcestershire. I have lots of wonderful friends and colleagues in the parishes which I care for, and really enjoy the variety of every day in parish ministry. I am also very privileged to be an Honorary Canon of the beautiful Cathedral in Worcester.

I started this blog in 2008 when I spent 3 months travelling abroad on study leave. The name derived not only from the fact that I was visiting pilgrimage sites all over Europe, but also that we are all pilgrims on a journey, even if we never step outside our own front door. So, though I am now back home, I still consider myself to be a 21st century pilgrim. Just as when I was travelling, this is a record of my thoughts about things that I encounter on my journey - some serious, some not.
