The bells

There are 25 bells - glad we haven't had that many to restore!

In Muslim times, the muezin called people to prayer, so had to climb the tower 5 times a day. It is not reached by stairs, but by a series of ramps so that he was able to ride his horse up. Having done it once, I don't envy the horse! The tour guide assured us that the ramps were easier than stairs, however I'm not sure about this, especially when the queue climbing up grinds to a halt.
